A combined approach

We know that children don’t always require a full therapy approach, but may benefit from some further tuition in specific areas or ongoing monitoring to ensure they build the right communication skills. That’s why we offer a combination of speech tuition with therapy interwoven as needed. This approach can work well for those with language difficulties, auditory processing delays, or mild speech errors. These children often benefit greatly from more generalised teaching over a longer period of time to ensure that the learning sticks. It is particularly helpful for children with mild delays to ensure they don’t fall behind in school again, as this creates an ongoing cycle of needing to catch up rather than managing difficulties as they arise. The approach ties activities from the speech and drama curriculum with speech-language therapy tasks to strengthen communication ability in fun and engaging sessions. Usually it is best if students are seen in groups for this work, as this helps develop communication with their peers.
